Mutts over Matter

Welcome!
I'm Emily, the owner of Mutts Over Matter Dog Training.
Your dog is always speaking but are you listening? Every interaction you have with your dog is a training session whether you know it or not. Either you are training your dog or your dog is training you.
When I first adopted my dog Rex, he was incredibly reactive to other dogs. After trying multiple trainers and programs without success, I took matters into my own hands. I realized none of the trainers I worked with knew how to communicate with Rex in a way he understood so that started my research into how dogs learn and communicate. I took this information and created a training program tailored for Rex. Using that program I was able to help Rex through his reactivity and I'm proud to say he has transformed into an accomplished sports dog. Now, he proudly acts as one of my demo dog for lessons and classes!
I believe training is more than just teaching your dog commands. True communication is understanding how your dog perceives the world and interacts with the environment around them as well as understanding how they learn.
This knowledge transforms relationships.
My training style is focused on creating better relationships based on clear communication between you and your dog as well as setting boundaries through impulse control and structure. My goal as your trainer is to guide you in learning how to read and understand your dog’s body language and what your dog is saying and using that information to help your dog understand our expectations for them. This is how dogs learn best and what makes life with your dog fun again.
My career in the animal industry started in 2018, since then I have achieved membership with the International Association of Canine Professionals and became an AKC Evaluator. For your dog's safety I am certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.
